All transactions attract one form of tax or the other at the point of payment. Understanding the applicable tax will minimize the tax burden that may arise due to non-compliance to the relevant tax laws, particularly as it relates to VAT and WHT.

Therefore, this paper will address the various compliance pitfalls that arises as a result of wrong interpretation of the tax laws, identifying the appropriate beneficiary of the tax and communicating transaction details to the relevant tax authority in a prescribed format at the appropriate time.
